What this office decides
The Cobb County Board of Education sets policy for one of Georgia's largest school districts, adopting the annual budget and property tax millage rate for schools, approving curriculum and instructional materials, and hiring and overseeing the superintendent. Board members also decide attendance zones, school construction and the use of education SPLOST funds, student discipline and safety policies, and charter school petitions. The post is elected by district but the board's decisions affect every family in the county.
